5 days training on AI Machine Learning & Data Science

Machine Vision and Intelligent Systems Lab at NUST SEECS has organized a 5 day training on AI, Machine Learning & Data Science in collaboration with NUST Professional Development Centre from 6th-10th Sep 2021.
*Who is it for?
This training program is designed to help the audiences apply ideas from machine learning and data science to your work. It is designed for technically minded people and assumes some basic knowledge of computer programming.
*Program
Each of the training days is divided into three sessions. The theoretical aspects will be covered in the first two sessions and the last session is dedicated to the hands-on implementation in Python.
*Training Objectives
• Move beyond the spreadsheet with a foundational understanding of data science tools, processes, and models, to understand the importance of data science and how it relates to business decisions and organisational success
• Leverage data science and machine learning to hone your decision-making skills and learn how to identify and avoid common mistakes while interpreting datasets, metrics, and visualisation
• Create a data-driven framework for your organisational and for yourself; develop hypotheses and insights; identify data and missing components; and speak a common language with your data teams to lead to actionable recommendations
• Understand key techniques such as data curation, regression models, supervised and unsupervised classification, prediction and analyses, and visualisations, and learn how to implement machine learning and data science solutions in Python
*Trainers
• Dr Muhammad Moazam Fraz (Associate Professor, SEECS)
• Dr Rabia Irfan (Assistant Professor, SEECS)

Training-Software Defined Optical Networking, Islamabad, Pakistan

NUST-SEECS is pleased to announce that the Software Defined Optical Networks (SDON) training event will be held virtually on 25th – 28th October 2021 at National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) Islamabad H-12 campus, Pakistan. This training is designed for engineers, academic researchers and system staffs working at universities, academic networks and R&E networks especially involved with optical transmission network design & planning, network monitoring & management. This event is organised in a hybrid mode (virtual for international participants & on-site for participants from Pakistan). The training content will be focused on the notion and importance of open networking principles and practices. After a primer on software defined networking (SDN) and optical networking/communication, we will delve into advanced concepts like open optical networks.

The training will also cover a module on core optical network planning and short presentations on latest research trends in this domain. This training also includes a hands on portion on SDN emulators like Mininet and SDN controllers like POX and ONOS. International invited speakers including Prof. Vittorio Curri, Prof. Luca Poti & Prof. Fillipo Cugini will be delivering talks/tutorials on topics related to open optical networking.

Invited engineers shall be those working currently in each NREN’s NOC or an academic researcher or postgraduate research student. The NREN nominees should be familiar with fundamentals of optical communications/networks and should have high level knowledge of his/her own network, with minimum three (3) years of experience in the field.

The Workshop will create a chance of better collaboration within Asian Countries.

NUST SEECS Orientation 2020

Every year some of the most competent and accomplished students all over the country join SEECS which is plausibly one of the most renowned schools of NUST, imparting education in the field of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. These young intellectuals come here with immense zeal and enthusiasm as well as a bit of anxiousness for a distinctive and consequential venture worth a lifetime. Therefore, an Orientation Week is held accordingly in order to help the incoming batch get acquainted with the essentials of university life, to help them interact with their seniors and contemporaries alike, mentally prepare them for the challenges lying ahead and make them feel at home.

The year 2020 arguably turned out to be the most uncertain and despondent year for many of us due to the COVID-19 pandemic and students throughout the world have had to bear the burnt of it as all the on-campus educational activities had come to a halt. After its re-opening, NUST enforced strict SOPs to cater for the health of the students and the faculty alike. Despite these unprecedented circumstances, the NUST-SEECS Orientation Week was observed from 12-19 October, 2020. The event was kept somewhat formal this time around, unlike the preceding years, in order to prioritise the sound health of students.

Students from the Sophomore, Junior and Final year volunteered to partake in the Orientation Week to make it something worth cherishing for the freshmen, despite the restrictions. Adherence to all the COVID-19 SOPs was ensured. Wearing of face masks was made mandatory, the batch was divided into several groups to avoid crowding, students were seated at a considerable distance, hand sanitizers were installed throughout the campus and movement of the students was restricted as most of the activities were carried out at the SEECS seminar hall.

Firstly, icebreaking sessions were carried out where the students briefly introduced themselves, expressed their aspirations and expectations, mentioned their distinctive traits and took part in several debates. Such activities help the students speak their mind unhesitatingly and feel homely with the SEECS family.
