SEECS PhD Policy Guidelines
GRE Policy:
Requirement of GRE with deadlines is as under: -
No GRE Required for students enrolled before 31 May 2005.
For students enrolled after 31 May 2005 GRE requirement is as under: -

In disciplines where GRE(Subject) test is not aval, students will be required to qualify NTS (Subject) test with min 60% cumulative score.
If the discipline is not aval in NTS Subject list, test will be conducted by University Committee of at least 3 HEC approved PhD faculty members. In this case qualifying score will be 70%.
Course work:
Course work comprises of minimum 18 credit hours
Minimum qualifying CGPA required is 3.50/4.00.
In case, CGPA is less than 3.50, students can improve grade in maximum two subjects.
Improvement of Grades:
Grade can be improved in maximum two subjects
Grades “C”, “C+” & “B” can be improved.
Student will be awarded earned grade after improvement.
New earned grade (higher or lower) is incorporated to calculate CGPA
Both grades are reflected in transcript.
Qualifying Exam:
Qualifying exam is conducted on completion of coursework with minimum CGPA 3.50/4.00.
It comprises of Subject Exam (written) and Oral Exam.
Subject exam will consist of two papers: -
Paper-I covers major research area
Paper-II covers allied subjects
To clear Subject exam 65% marks are required.
Oral exam is conducted within one month of qualifying Subject Exam
Result of Oral exam is decided on majority of votes
Students who fail to clear qualifying exam are given one more chance.
Research work:
30 credit hours research work
Two research paper publications in HEC approved journals
Successful final thesis defense.

Normal tuition fee is charged during On-Campus period.
Rs 600/- p.m will be charged for Off-Campus period till thesis defense.
Final Thesis Defense:
Clearance of GRE as applicable.
Thesis will be evaluated by GEC members.
In addition to GEC dissertation will be fwd to three external experts for evaluation.
Externals will be one local and two from technologically advanced countries.
Copies of Thesis are to be provided to examiners at least 4 weeks in advance.
Final Defense Committee will comprise of GEC and externals.
Result of thesis evaluation will be decided by majority vote.
PhD Registration Process
Scholarships
Distribution – HEC Scholarship Scheme
University:
Support to University (for tuition fee/other charges): Rs 75,000/- or actual fee
Support to University (for lab equipment etc): Rs 75,000/- p.a during PhD phase only.
Thesis Evaluation from abroad charges: Rs 18,000/-
Scholars:
Rs 10,000/- pm during MS & Rs 13,000/- during PhD
Book Allowance: Rs 5000/- pa
Thesis Charges: Rs 5000/- in the final year.
On Publication in HEC Journals: Rs 10,000/- (Max) @ Rs 3000/- per publication
