SEECS MS Policy Guidelines

General Eligibility Criteria:

  • 16 years of education from HEC recognized Institutes
  • Minimum CGPA 2.50/4.00 or first division
  • Maximum one 2nd Division (not in terminal degree)
  • No 3rd division
  • Clearance of GAT test conducted by NTS with minimum score of 50%

Academic Deficiencies:
A student shall be dropped from the course if: -

  • First Academic Semester GPA is less than 2.00
  • Receives ‘F’ grade in more than one course
  • Fails again after repeating the failed course
  • CGPA remains below 3.00 on completion of course work even after availing improvement chances
  • On disciplinary grounds

Coursework:

  • Three semesters (24 credit hrs)
  • Min CGPA to qualify coursework is 3.00/4.00
  • Students can improve grade in maximum two subjects to make their CGPA 3.00

Improvement of Grades:

  • Grade can be improved  in maximum two subjects
  • Only “C” or “C+” grades can be improved.
  • Maximum achievable grade is “B+”
  • New earned grade (higher or lower) is incorporated to calculate  CGPA
  • Both grades are reflected in transcript.
  • Students are required to pay Rs 3600/- per credit hour on account of improvement charges.

Thesis Work:
In addition to course work, it is mandatory for MS students to carry out research.

  • Minimum CGPA required to undertake thesis work is 3.00/4.00
  • Thesis work is graded.
  • Minimum grade required to qualify thesis is “B”.
  • Time limit to complete thesis work is as under: -
    • Six months on-campus time, counted with effect from completion of ESE of 3rd semester exam.
    • One year off-campus time
    • One year extension by Rector NUST subject to completion of 50% work
  • Students are required to pay full tuition fee during on-campus time
  • 10% of normal tuition fee charged for off-campus/extended period

 

Scholarships

Distribution – HEC Scholarship Scheme

University:

  •  Support to University (for tuition fee/other charges): Rs  75,000/- or actual fee
  •   Support to University (for lab equipment etc): Rs 75,000/- p.a during PhD phase only.
  •   Thesis Evaluation from abroad charges:  Rs 18,000/-

Scholars:

  •   Rs 10,000/- pm during MS & Rs 13,000/- during PhD
  •   Book Allowance: Rs 5000/- pa
  •   Thesis Charges: Rs 5000/- in the final year.
  •   On Publication in HEC Journals: Rs 10,000/- (Max) @ Rs 3000/- per publication

Supervisor:

  •   On approval of BASR: Rs 50,000/-  once
  •   On publication in HEC Journals : Rs 70,000/- Max
  •   Thesis Writing: Rs 50,000/- once
  •   Evaluation from Abroad: Rs 20,000/- once
  •   On Completion of PhD Thesis: Rs 50,000/- once.
