Dr. Sohail Iqbal is Head of Computer Science Department at School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS), which is a constituent of National University of Sciences and Technology(NUST), Islamabad. He has completed his PhD in Surgical Robotics from University of Paris-Est, France. Having a mathematical background, his research interests are to apply the mathematical techniques to solve the real world problems. He works in continuum robotics, mathematical modeling, fuzzy controllers and artificial intelligence. Moreover, He is working in different robotics related projects. He has organised many robotics workshops and robotic competitions at NUST.

Research Interest

Dr. Sohail Iqbal has special interest to apply mathematical techniques to difference areas of computer science and engineering with special focus on surgical robotics. His research interest includes robot modeling and control, interval analysis, and fuzzy logic.

Current Projects

Currently, Dr. Sohail Iqbal is advisor in the following Final Year Projects of electrial engineering students:

- "Development of Low Cost, Haptic Feedback Device for Surgical Purpose"

- "Analysis and Filtering of Physiological Tremor for Surgical Robot"

- "Pipeline Inspection Robot"

Moreover, he is also working in the "Tele-Surgical Robotic Simulator" Project, lead by Dr. Osman Hassan and funded by Higher Education Commision of Pakistan. In this project, the aim to is to develop a robotic simulator to train the surgeons for robotic surgery. This project involves a team of surgeons, lead by Prof. Dr. Asif Zafar from Holy Family Hospital, Pakistan

- Maintaining the record of faculty performance and helping them in their carrier progression
- Handling administrative tasks at different events such as Open house

Industry Experience

Dr. Sohail Iqbal has worked in Experts Software House, Islamabad for one year from April 2002-March 2003 as scientific advisor. This was very interesting job, where he has to review the latest IEEE papers in the areas of automation and help to implement them in various running projects.
