Dr. Peter Bloodsworth joined NUST-SEECS (DoC) as a Foreign Professor in autumn 2011. He has a PhD in Multi-agent Systems from Oxford Brookes University in the UK. Dr. Bloodsworth has around 10 years of experience in academia with special interest in multi-agent systems, semantic technologies and distributed computing. Before joining SEECS, he worked as a Research Fellow in the Centre for Complex Cooperative Systems at UWE, Bristol. He has participated in several European projects and was a workpackage leader in the FP7 funded neuGRID project. He remains active in PhD supervision and is fully qualified to act as director of studies for research degrees in UK universities. His research work is published in various international journals and conferences with over twenty publications thus far. He is a full member of IEEE and served in the program committees of IEEE conferences. He is also a Chartered Member of the British Computing Society (BCS) and continues to act as a reviewer for several IEEE and other international journals.

Research Interest

His current research work focuses on Robotic Autonomous Systems (RAS) this includes interactions between cloud computing techniques, intelligent agents and robotics. The main research aim is to deploy multi-agent technologies in order to practically assist people in managing the ever growing complexities of information and of life in general.

Current Research Projects

Elastic-JADE

In recent years multi-agent systems have been applied to integrate heterogeneous information, to work on the behalf of users and to provide decision support in challenging environments. As multi-agent technology continues to develop, the numbers of agents that comprise a system and their usage of computing resources are both likely to grow. Distributed agent platforms such as JADE (Java Agent Development framework) provide a partial solution to such scalability issues. The emergence of infrastructure as a service (IAAS) cloud computing environments which allow the dynamic scaling of resources provides us with new ways of harnessing the distributed nature of multi-agent systems and their development environments. In this project we have developed Elastic-JADE, the aim of which is to allow a local JADE platform to automatically scale up and down using Amazon EC2 resources when the local platform is heavily loaded. An initial prototype has been developed and is now being refined.
