18th December, 2017

Hult Prize 2018 is the largest social entrepreneurship challenge that encourages college and university students around the world to present innovative business ideas to address the most pressing global issues. The quarter final competition of Hult Prize - NUST Chapter was conducted 18th December, 2018 in the presence of a panel of 6 judges well-known for their significant contributions in corporate sector, banking and telecom industry. The panel included: Noman Azhar, Noshad Minhas, Dr. Mohsin Tiwana, Azfar Kashif, Mudassar Nazar, Neelum Kasi. The Dean and Principle of NUST-SEECS and IT Wing, Dr. Syed Muhammad Hassan Zaidi, attended the event as the Chief Guest and Mustafa Minhas, Director Finance and Admin at Isra University, as the Guest of Honor.
15 teams were shortlisted from 184 registered teams to present their ideas in this final competition. While all of the 15 teams did a great job pitching their ideas and responding to the questions of judges, Team Wheelo qualified as the winner and Team RAAR as runner up.
Team Wheelo from NUST-PNEC consisted of 4 members named Ali Arshad, Syed Muhammad Maaz, Harron Waeem and Saif Ahmed Khan. Being from engineering background, they presented the concept of electric vehicles that can be charged by pedaling. This would make transportation and mobility far more environment friendly and economical while addressing the challenge of limited power resources, mainly in the developing countries.
Team RAAR from NUST-SEECS and NBS consisted of four members named Muhammad Zubair, Malik Hassan Raza, Owais Ahmed and Abdul Ahad.  Their idea was similar to that of Team Wheelo -- they suggested bringing electric bikes in the market and offer them on rental basis at nominal charges. This will counter the initial high cost that may make electric bikes otherwise unaffordable for majority.
The qualified team will pitch their startup in one of the three preferred /selected cities of London, Singapore or Kuala Lampur on 9 th March 2018.
