Amina Eman Shorish and Muhammad Ahsan Fahim were awarded the Outstanding Proposal Award
27th July, 2018
NUST SEECS students Amina Eman Shorish and Muhammad Ahsan Fahim were awarded the Outstanding Proposal Award for their social enterprise in the domain of UN SDG 11, Sustainable Cities & Communities. Their proposal is now eligible for 50,000 HKD seed funding courtesy the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. The students formed a two member delegation and were selected to represent Pakistan in the Belt and Road Global Youth Leadership Summit 2018 held in Beijing form June 15th to June 22nd.
The social enterprise idea which earned them such distinction is a socially inclusive, tech based project to help manage food waste and alleviate hunger in urban cities, especially in the growing percentage of slum areas. Their solution is called ACT (Awareness, Campaigning & Technology) which aims to implement a holistic effort in order to achieve an effective social impact. The three pronged solution seeks to advocate waste free practices among restaurant owners, establish a community led system of food sharing and delivery and also build an app to connect the various stakeholders involved including home owners, restaurants, dormitory students and existing food service providers.
