NUST SEECS Students secured 1st prize in Women's Transport Innovation Challenge and Hackathon

Pakistan Innovation Foundation, in collaboration with UN Women and Toyota, organized a 3 day Hackathon at WECREATE Center, Islamabad from 11th to 13th September, 2015. The Hackathon addressed the challenge of providing affordable, convenient, and respectable transport to the women of developing countries. Ideas were invited in 4 themes: Business Models, Social Campaigns, Product Designs and Technology. A team of sophomores from BESE-5 comprising of Asad Salman, Maimoona Khalid and Talha Paracha participated under the category "Use of technology and apps to improve efficiency of the existing system of transport" and developed Canary: an Android app that alerts the user’s family if they’re ever in trouble while travelling, along with their location.
The team won prize money of Rs.100, 000 and were provided mentoring and support from PIF and its partners to take their idea forward.
