SEECS Startup CricFlex Wins 0.75 Million PKR in Pakistan Startup Cup 2016
Pakistan Startup Cup 2016, the biggest startup competition of Pakistan, was organized by TIE Islamabad Chapter in collaboration with United States Embassy to give a platform to promote entrepreneurship culture in Pakistan.Through an extensive process of six months, comprising of 4 stages, 950 startups from all over Pakistan were funneled down to top 3 startups from the cities of Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Faisalabad. These 12 startups then competed in the Grand Finale for the winner and runner-up titles where Cricflex won the 1st runner-up prize of 0.75M PKR.
The closing ceremony of the event, held in Marriot Islamabad, was attended by dignitaries like Ahsan Iqbal (Minister for Planning, Development and Reforms), Dr. Arshad Ali (Executive Director HEC), Jonathan Pratt (U.S. Embassy Deputy Chief of Mission), Ma’am Sarah Hashwani (TiE Islamabad President) and numerous other industry leaders.
Cricket is the world’s 2nd most popular sport but the issue of illegal bowling action has become a curse. And team CricFlex has the right solution. CricFlex is the world’s first wearable technology for cricket. An arm sleeve, embedded with the sensors, is worn by the bowler to verify the legality of action, displaying the results on a smartphone. CricFlex tracks arm speed and amount of spin to determine the player performance, consistency and effort, ultimately helping the bowler train and improve.
The team CricFlex comprising of 2016 graduates, Abdullah Ahmed, Jazib Khan, Muhammad Asawal, Bilal Zahid and Waqas Ahmed, is motivated to bring a revolution in sports wearable industry and plan to launch this product soon in the market.
