Successful applicants entering into graduate studies programs at KNU through the Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) are guaranteed scholarship.
Two tracks in application for KGSP, one is via Korean Embassy, and the other is via Korean universities (including KNU) designed by Korean Government (NIIED). Applicants have to choose only one of both. In case of the Embassy track, applicants should submit the application documents to the Korean Embassy in your country according to its selection schedule.
In case of university quota, the application period at KNU is from February 05 to 19 Mar 2018, and applicants have to submit their application documents to international office of KNU by post or in person. We would very much appreciate it if you would promoted this opportunity among your students.
The Government of Republic of Korea has announced “2018 Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) for Graduate Degrees”. Online applications are invited from the Indian nationals which is available at URL http://proposal.sakshat.ac.in/scholarship. The scholarship is tenable from 1st September 2018 to study at 64 Universities or Institution as designated by National Institute for International Education (NIIED). Applicants are advised to visit the official website of Korean Government Scholarship Programme (KGSP)i.e. www.studyinkorea.go.kr (Direct link: http://www.studyinkorea.go.kr/en/sub/gks/selectBoardArticle.do ) before applying online. · Award: 8 candidates would be awarded scholarship. Final Selection would be done by the Government of Republic of Korea. · Level of course:(i) Master’s, (ii) Doctoral and (iii) Research Programme · Subjects fields: Ø Korean Language Ø International Relations (including Korean Studies) Ø Bio-technology Ø Electronic Engineering · Eligibility: Ø Age: (a) Applicants applying for Master’s/ Doctoral Programme must be under 40 years of age as of September 1st, 2018 (born after September 1st, 1978). (b) Applicant who is working as a Professor must be under 45 year of age as of September 1, 2018 (born after September 1, 1973). Ø Qualification: (i) For Master’s Programme: Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree as of August 31st, 2018. (ii) For Doctoral Programme: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree as of August 31st, 2018.
For Research Programme: (a) Postdoctoral Research Program: Applicants must hold a Doctoral degree, or a diploma equivalent to a Doctoral degree. (b) Professor Exchange Program: Applicants must hold a Master’s degree, or a diploma equivalent to or higher than a Master’s degree. Required percentage: Minimum eligibility is 65 % or more for the Bio-technology and Electronic Engineering. Ø Equivalent foreign degree will be considered. Note: Applicants who have completed a Bachelor’s, Master’s or Doctoral degree in Korea are not eligible to apply. Other eligibility conditions: Ø Candidates who have already been abroad for study/research/training for more than six months at a time either on a scholarship or on their own, are eligible to apply only if they have been in India for at least two years after their return from abroad as on 09.03.2018. Ø Applications of candidates who are abroad will not be considered. Ø Those who had withdrawn from the scholarship after being selected for KGSP scholarship in the previous years are not eligible to apply. · Period of scholarship Ø Master’s Degree Program: 3 Years (September 1, 2018 – August 31, 2021) Ø One Year Korean Language Program Two Year Degree Program Ø Doctoral Degree Program: 4 Years (September 1, 2018 – August 31, 2022) One Year Korean Language Program Three Year regular Degree Program Ø Research Program: 6 Months (September 1, 2018 – February 28, 2019) · Airfare: Payment for Round-trip economy class ticket will be made by NIIED, Government of Korea. · Value of scholarship: Ø Settlement Allowance: 200,000 KRW Ø Monthly Allowance (i) Degree Program (Master’s or Doctoral): 900,000 KRW (ii) Research Program: 1,500,000 KRW
- Ø Research Allowance (i) Liberal Arts and Social Science majors: 210,000 KRW per semester (ii) Natural Science and Engineering Degrees: 240,000 KRW per semester Ø Language Training Fees: Fully covered Ø Degree Tuition: Fully covered (i) Tuition up to 5 million KRW is covered by NIIED, and the amount that exceeds 5 million is covered by the scholar’s university. (ii) The KGSP scholars are waived from the university’s admission fees. Ø Thesis (Dissertation) Printing Fee Reimbursement (i) The actual cost of printing as written on the receipt will be reimbursed (Submission of receipt required). (ii) The maximum reimbursable amount is 500,000 KRW for degrees in Liberal Arts and Social Science majors and 800,000KRW for degrees in Natural Science and Technology, Engineering and Arts, Music and Sports majors. Ø Medical Insurance: 20,000 KRW per month Ø Korean Proficiency Grants: 100,000 KRW per month This special funding is available for KGSP scholars with levels 5 or 6 on TOPIK. Ø Degree Completion Grants: 100,000 KRW(offered once) (i) It is offered for the KGSP scholars who return to their home countries after completing their degree coursework under the scholarship programme. (ii) It is not offered for the KGSP scholars who decide to stay in Korea after the completion of their degree coursework. Ø Language Training Fees, Degree Tuition, Thesis (dissertation) Printing fees and Grants for high Korean Proficiency (Topic level 5 or 6 achievers) are ONLY given to degree pursuing scholars. · Online application: Ø Applicants are required to apply online through theportalhttp://proposal.sakshat.ac.in/scholarship. The last date for online application is 09.03.2017(Till 3 pm).
Applicants are also required to fill the prescribed Korean Government Scholarship Programme (KGPS) Form available at http://www.studyinkorea.go.kr/en/sub/gks/selectBoardArticle.do . Documents required: Ø Scanned copy of the following documents need to be uploaded at the time of online application at http://proposal.sakshat.ac.in/scholarship . Ø Marks sheet and certificate for Secondary Examination Ø Marks sheet and certificate for Higher Secondary Examination Ø Transcript in respect of the candidate’s higher qualification(s). Ø Bachelor’s/Master’s/Doctoral degree or equivalent. Note: Candidates are required to obtain transcript from their university/institution. · Candidates, shortlisted for interview, are required to bring the following documents at the time of interview: Ø Original Certificates along with mark sheets of Class X, XII & Transcripts and degree (if awarded) in respect of their higher qualification(s). Ø NOC/ Cadre clearance (in case of Government Servant). Ø Candidates must provide write-up of his/her plan of study in at least (a) 500 to 1000 words for Master’s Programme (b) 1000 to 2000 words for Doctoral and Research Programme. Ø Korean or English Language Proficiency Certificate (if any): It is an optional document and you may apply for KGSP without it. However, Embassy of Republic of Korea in New Delhi or some universities do require the language proficiency certificate. · Korean Universities: The list of 64 universities available at www.studyinkorea.go.kr. · Preference for Universities: Candidates are required to give preference for three universities of study on their application form. · Letter of Recommendation At least two letters of recommendation are required. The candidates are advised that they ask their professors and academic advisors for such letters. However, university may ask for more letters of recommendation. The letters of recommendation are required at the time of interview
Nomination and final selection: Ø Only shortlisted candidates would be called for interview and the Selection Committee consisting of subject experts will interview the candidates. Based on merit, the nomination would be made. The nomination will be sent to the Government of Republic of Korea. Note: The decision of selection committee shall be final and no representation in this regard will be entertained. Ø Nomination of a candidate by Government of India does not, in any way, guarantee final selection or placement. The Government of Republic of Korea will make the final selection. · Important dates: Closing date of online application in Ministry of Human Resource Development: 09.03.2018 (till 3 PM) Tentative dates for the Interview Around 26.03.2018 · Notes: Ø Candidates are also required to fulfill the terms and conditions laid by the Government of Korea. Ø A candidate can apply only in one subject and for one of the degree courses. Ø Candidates who do not possess the essential qualifications need not apply. Ø Employed candidates must obtain ‘No Objection Certificate’ from their employer. In case of Government servant, cadre clearance is a must. The same is required to be submitted at the time of interview. Ø The applicant in employment (to which he/she wishes to return) should have an assurance from his/her employer that he/she will be granted sufficient leave if he/she is awarded this scholarship during study period in Korea. Ø Canvassing in any form and suppression of any fact in the application will disqualify the candidature of the applicant.
