International Interns under IAESTE Chapter for the year 2013-2014
I came to Pakistan through an international exchange program, IAESTE at SEECS, NUST for 3 months and this is my first experience outside my country. I am a computer science major and my internship at School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science helped me in learning and practicing some new web programming languages and techniques including PHP, SQL language while I worked ona Learning Management System, Moodle. I have gained experience in new technologies which were unknown to me in my country and this was a really good opportunity for me to improve my resume for a job when I go back to my country.
How do you know about Pakistan? What do you think about Pakistan? Is it dangerous? Are you sure that everything you heard about this country is true? These are among the few questions which are being asked from me time and again and I would say that Pakistani people are very nice. Everyone in my hostel and at my work place always say hello to me and ask me whether I need anything or any kind of help all the time. My friends that I made taught me Urdu, the national language of Pakistan and I also learned other languages from other IAESTE interns working in Pakistan.
The culture of Pakistan is different from mine, however it was very interesting and I am really glad that I had chance to experience Pakistani culture and meet Pakistani people and spend times with them.
I really enjoyed the Pakistani style tea and food. My favorites were the “Chicken salan” and “Biryani”. I also got a chance to visit many beautiful places in and around Islamabad and Lahore including Shahdara stream, Shalamar (Mughal) Gardens, Mukshpuri Top, Monal Restaurant, Mangla View Resort, Khewra Salt Mines, Faisal Mosque and COMSATS University, apart from National University of Science and Technology. I enjoyed every single trip.
My most impressive and honored memory is when I was honored to meet Prime Minister of Thailand on her visit to Pakistan during my stay here.
I’m thankful to IAESTE Pakistan for providing me with this wonderful opportunity. I hope and plan to come back and meet my friends in Pakistan again.
