International Interns under IAESTE Chapter for the year 2013-2014
People in Pakistan are very kind.It is not just my opinion.Ask any intern who visited NUST under IAESTE Program,he/she will have the same opinion. NUST is ranked amongst top 400 universities of the world and am sure my training here is going to benefit me in my future career .During my first two days of training, I was taken on a tour to different labs at School of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering (SMME). I was briefed on different on-going projects at the school and since I wished to work on all of them, I was given the chance to work in different labs with different supervisors, which provided me experience in different fields related to my course.
I was in Pakistan not for study and work only. I was here to have fun and to learn about the cultural diversity of this beautiful country. This is what we were able to achieve through IAESTE Islamabad’s Local Committee’s guidance and all-out cooperation. We went to the fascinating hill station of Murree where you could spend hours and hours meditatingon the wonderful beauties of nature. We visited state of the art buildings like Pakistan Monument and Faisal Mosque. We enjoyed movies, went to different parks, malls, and bazaars including Jinnah Park, Japanese Park and Centaurus Mall. We tried different kinds of food in different restaurants, especially Monal restaurant where you can enjoy food, nature and a fantastic view of Islamabad.
I, along with other IAESTE interns visited historical city of Taxilathat may have dated back to at least the 5th century B.C. We also had a visit to Lahore whose details will require books to be written on but I’ll mention the places that I had visited there: Shalimar Gardens, ShahiQila, Badshahi Mosque, Minar e Pakistan, Food Street. We also witnessed the Flag Removing Ceremony at Wagah border.…….. That was awesome to see. For some time we felt as if we are also Pakistanis and raised patriotic slogans with the Pakistani people. We also got a chance to attend Pakistani wedding. The dances, the songs, mehndi, dresses and the food will never be forgotten.
I am very grateful for the level of cooperation and assistance provided by every person I met during my whole internship program. Especially I must acknowledge the support provided by the SEECS and SMME administration. They were generous enough to answer my multitudinous questions. I would like to thank Dr. Arshad Ali Principal, School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (SEECS) and the most helpful person I had ever met, IAESTE Exchange Coordinator Miss. Ayesha Mushtaq for giving me this opportunity and encouragement. At the end I express my heart-felt gratitude to all IAESTE Islamabad team.
