International Interns under IAESTE Chapter for the year 2013-2014

Intern's Testimonial

Dancan Muturi"They will kill you" , "They will kidnap you"
These were the reactions i got from most of my friends and family when I told them I was going to Pakistan as an exchange intern under IAESTE Program. I had been to Pakistan for about two months and I found nothing but kindness, generosity and hospitality by the Pakistanis. I don't recall a day passed in my stay here where I didn't receive a smile from anyone.

Pakistan is just like any country in this world, they have their problems which they are working hard to fix and overcome. These problems have not broken their spirit and will to make it a better place for them. If you love the historical heritage like I do, you will fall in love with this country. Pakistan has different kinds of races mingled all together in the society. You would find in the same area different kinds of traditions and habits that make Pakistan very rich in heritage.

I have encountered some of the traditional things here, a marriage ceremony which I was invited to just a week after my arrival and a musical night that showed us a small part of the traditional music they have here in Pakistan called Sufi music.

The marriage ceremony is not like most marriages in the world, it takes place up to 3 days and each day is called a specific function. Firstly there is the Mehndi function, it's basically like a get together day with friends and family from both sides. Dance, congrats and laughter are the main ingredients of this day. The other day is the called the Barat function, this is commonly known to us as the wedding day with the cake and all that. Finally, Waleema for those who are Arabs you know what this means! FOOD, FOOD, FOOD! At this day the groom invites the bride's side. As for the Sufi musical night, Sufi music is believed by the Sufi monks to bring us closer to God.

BUT! What if you are not into the whole heritage and traditional stuff, well no problem mates, Pakistan has almost every major brand I know, fancy restaurants, grand 5 store shopping malls, cinemas, bowling and other sport facilities, all the fast food franchisees you name it!
Bottom line is come to Pakistan and you won’t regret it!
