Open House on Digital Game Based Learning

The digital game based learning project titled: “Investigating the Impact of Game Based Learning using Tablets in Learning Mathematics for Primary School Students in Pakistan” is an innovative research project funded by Foundation for Information Technology Education and Development (FIT-ED) of the Republic of the Philippines in collaboration with International Development Research Centre (IDRC) of Canada and the Department for International Development (DFID) of the United Kingdom. The project aimed to create a knowledge base and stimulate debate at national and international level to address the issues of equity, quality and efficiency at primary education level using game based learning delivered through tablets technology. It also intended to demonstrate interactive, individualized and customized flexible learning for learners belonging to various socio economic backgrounds. The project was mainly focused on children belonging to Out-of-Schools Children (OSC) Schools in Islamabad that cater to the needs of street children and those who have missed out their years of admitting into regular mainstream schools. The objective of the project was to evaluate the effectiveness of a game based tablet application on the topic of primary school Mathematics for achievement, increased engagement, motivation and better learning beliefs. It also sought to investigate the possibility of practicing self-paced learning in mathematics through tablets based applications without the need of a teacher.
