Young Scientist award for 2019

Prof Dr Faisal Shafait, Professor at NUST School of Electrical Engineering & Computer Science (SEECS), Department of Computing, has received the ‘International Association for Pattern Recognition Young Scientist Award for 2019’ in Sydney, Australia, during the 15th International Conference on Document Analysis & Recognition (ICDAR 2019). This international award is given after every twoyears to the most outstanding young scientist worldwide in the field of Pattern Recognition & Document Analysis. This is the first time that this prestigious award has been bestowed to a Pakistani scientist.
The International Conference on Document Analysis and Recognition (ICDAR 2019) is the most notable event for the document analysis community & has a 30years history of bringing together researchers, scientists, and practitioners from all over the world to present their latest research findings in the field of document analysis and recognition and discuss its practical application.
Dr Faisal Shafait, who got his PhD degree in Computer Engineering from Germany, is also the President of Pakistani Pattern Recognition Society (PPRS), which was launched at a Special Interest Group meeting at NUST SEECS in October 2015.
